HISTORY OF THE SICKLE CELL WALK
During a Alpha Memphis Education Foundation (AMEF) meeting, board member Kenneth Carpenter came up with the idea of starting a walk to support a cause in Memphis, Tennessee. Also present at the meeting was the Trevor Thompson (SCFT Founder and Sickle Cell Consumer) who suggested the walk be for Sickle Cell. Born out of the AMEF meeting was the Sickle Cell Walk-A-Thon. The walk was developed to create Sickle Cell Disease awareness in the Memphis community and to raise money for patient care, social services, and research. In 2010, the walk transitioned to the leadership of the Sickle Cell Foundation of Tennessee. All net proceeds from the 5K /Walk will directly benefit people living with Sickle Cell. The ultimate goal is to improve the quality of life for individuals living with this debilitating disease.Sponsors
